*whistles slowly* First let's just talk about the cover, I mean is that not the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?! Before I received this book I read that it was a mix between Harry Potter and Narnia and yep, I was of course immediately intrigued! Any book that claims to be a mix of two of the best YA fantasy series in existence is fine didleyine by me. Plus, the author grew up on a farm in Australia... hello similarities! So Alex is being shipped off to boarding school, but instead of the dull International Exchange Academy she is pulled through a door and into another world where she is already enrolled at The Akarnae Academy where things are very, very unique... Need examples? No wokkas; the teachers can pretty much do whatever they please, they have this cafeteria that allows you to recieve anything you want with the touch of a button (I need this), protective wards, a missing headmaster, a magical library, gifted (and not just smart, but like you know, gifted) students and of course a bunch of sexy-arse characters that had me drooling. I am not kidding. I literally shipped Alex with five characters, yes, you heard right, five!! As Alex progresses through the terms, hoping to get home, she makes connections with some exotic people and places that makes her wonder if she actually wants to leave after all... I adored every single thing about this book. It is quite a large read and took me a while to get through because of unchangeable circumstances such as exams and traveling and prac, blah blah blah. But every single moment I could be reading, I was!! I even went to the gym with it, where I sat on the floor reading while my cousin taught an attack class... What can I say?! I'm dedicated! The only bad thing I have to say is that because it was only just released, I'm guessing that I will have to wait a while for the next book in the series, and I hate waiting for sure-to-be-amazing sequels! Rate: 9/10 Pages: 436 Format: Paperback Acquired from: Simon & Schuster Publishing (Pantera Press) If you liked Harry Potter and Narnia, You'll LOVE this! |
*while I received this book in exchange for a review, all opinions are entirely and undoubtedly my own*
