Upon reading the blurb and realising that TKO followed characters unrelated to the original series, I was disappointed. However, I was excited to learn more about the apocalypse and the development of WICKED.
But I was a little underwhelmed. Following five characters; Mark, Trina, Alec, Lana and Deedee, the book was set as the Flare virus is released. It was quite fast paced, but I found that they didn't really get anywhere. I found Mark to be quite annoying in the first three quarters of the book as he made such childish and stupid decisions. He did get better and I can see that Dashner was trying to show his transition, but I think he needed to be smarter considering he already had survived the sun flares. I didn't really feel the bond between Mark and Trina, in fact the relationship between all the characters was a little off. However, I really did enjoy the flashbacks to the actual apocalypse, quite a great deal more than what was happening in the main story. I think that Dashner had a chance to really uncover some more truths, but he just didn't. I read somewhere that he is writing another prequel, so maybe that is why, creating suspense for the next book. I was really annoyed that it didn't confirm that Teresa was Deedee either, I know he did in some editions, but why didn't he include them in all. I LOVED THE ENDING!! I thought that Dashner absolutely crushed it!! ;) Rate: 7.5/10 Pages: 331 pages Format: Paperback Genre: YA Dystopian Acquired from: The Mobile Library |
