Miranda's first book Treasure Yourself was the first self-growth book I ever read. It was about six years ago, and my best friend lent it to me after telling me how special it was. Now Tay, (who has been my bestie since pre-school times) has a Mum who was always very into Universal powers. As a result Tay was unusually optimistic and upbeat. She knew about the power of words and how believing something made it true. Back then, I did not, and I thought she was a little crazy (she is, and me too). Anyway, I read it and absolutely fell in love. I had to have a copy straight away so I could read it over and over. It was the first true wake up call to how life is a choice. And so I began choosing. It's been a long journey to where I am now, but I still hold such a huge amount of love for Miranda and her book. Hence, why I was so excited to get her latest book, Empower Yourself. This book is quite different though, and is predominantly just affirmations and tips for living a life of love, joy and harmony. I find what works best for me is to pick a random page and let its contents speak to me, which they do, regularly. There are gorgeous bird illustrations throughout and a sense of calm and sweetness within the pages of this lovely little purple book. Definitely a book to have sitting on your bedside counter! :) xo

I will admit that I was dubious about reading this book. I haven't been into sport since high school and have never followed AFL. The author of this book is an A-grade AFL (Australian Football League) player, and sporting culture is just really something I cannot relate to at this point in my life. I guess I was a bit judgy too, thinking that it would be about a footy star trying to tell the kids to "be cool, don't take drugs". Once I got over that and thought about the fact that I don't know this guy, and who knows, maybe I'll actually enjoy his book, I was able to step out of my comfort-box and learn.
As it happens, and generally does, I really liked the book! Harry, born Harritia moved to Australia with his family as a child. His mother always taught him to believe in himself, which is what he says allowed him and gave him the courage to pursue his dreams. The book is broken into four pillars, and in each he shares personal stories, teachings and facts about how we can be more mindful. It's Cool to be Conscious does an excellent job of outlining how we can be more mindful in everyday life and why it is so essential to be. I truly learnt a range of skills, and I'm even trying one out today; live as though today was your last. Harry also goes a lot into the importance of trying new things and stepping out of the familiar. Ironically, that is exactly what I had to do in order to give myself the chance to read and learn from his book. Well this was definitely a first in my short adult life. Dot-to-dots? Heck yes! I loved these suckers as a kid, and clearly I love them now! Throughout this compact little book there are hundreds of dot-to-dot activities that are extremely satisfying and mature! From foxes to trees and mermaids to bees, this book has it all. One of the best things is going in having no idea what you will be creating, and emerging with an amazing picture you can proudly say you drew! "Anti-Stress" though? I'm not so sure about that! I nearly threw it across the walls trying to find number 59 and 347... All round, an excellent book to have with you no matter where you are or what you're supposed to be doing.

Soul Purposes is like something I have never read before. The introduction to emissaries and spirt guides was interesting and eye-opening, and while I do not have a complete set of spiritual beliefs, I went in with an open mind, which allowed me to learn a great deal. Choquette believes that we are here to learn 22 basic soul lessons throughout our many lifetimes on Earth. During this book, which is actually narrated by the Emissaries of the Third Ray, you are exposed to how these lessons may manifest in your life and how you can grow and learn from them. Choquette also shares stories from her own life, and her clients' to demonstrate and show examples of the lessons. I particularly enjoyed the way it would help you to identify where you are at this point in time in each lesson, whether it be a; student, apprentice, journey-man or master. It would then give you specific techniques and strategies to use in order to complete the lessons. Meaning that if I read it in a year, or even ten years from now, I would be able to find something new, helpful and relevant.

Book three! I definitely enjoyed it more than the second one, as Lana was easily distinguishable from Faye and Anna. She had some great characteristics and her and Tracker had real chemistry, steam and some excellent one-liners. So what's Lana's story? Well, she is a twenty-five year old uni student (I actually forget what she is studying) and best friend of previous protagonist Anna. Oh, and she is also a highly successful romance author writing under pen name Zada Ryan. Bring in bad boy Tracker, who has been pinned by a jealous and slightly crazy Allie, and of course you're in for some drama! The thing I liked most was probably the friendship dynamic between Lana and Anna. They have a truly special bond and are loyal to each other beyond belief. The whole dominance and sexist thing still pisses me off a bit, but I try not to take it seriously. I did feel that Fernando did a lot better writing wise with this addition to the series, and the story line flowed better. Plus, there were references to Smallville AND Harry Potter! And I am pretty sure Lana was named after one of my favourite people/characters of all time in Kristen Kreuk/Lana Lang. So you know, that was cool. Should I mention now that I am also naming my daughter Lana...The name refuses to get tainted, even now.

I really enjoyed this book! It is sweet, compact, witty and all round well put together. I started reading aloud to my best friend as our feet sat soaking in a tub of warm (burning hot) milk bath water. After that I dabbed in and out; reading a chapter or two a day, which is the ideal way to do it I think. Practically this is a how to book on being ready for, falling in, and keeping love. Boland takes you through how to achieve these things in a light and spiritual way. She discusses how the energy and thoughts we have ultimately dictate our whole life; especially in regards to romantic relationships. I loved the way she isn't pushy or demanding in the book; but rather tells you to take what calls to you, and leave what doesn't. There are so many great ideas, activities and strategies for attracting love into your life included; some of which are; clearing (the past, clutter and air), Feng shui, creative visualisation, positive affirmations, the power of crystals, stars and numbers; plus more!
I did try and work out my kua number using the formula in the book, plus the calculator on her website and got different numbers, so I am a bit confused about that... At this point in my life my sole focus love wise is on the relationship I have with myself. I have begun on the most important journey you can ever undertake; which is loving, accepting and cherishing yourself. Therefore I didn't try a lot of activities from the book as I am not looking to attract a romantic relationship into my life at the present time; but as soon as I am, I now know exactly how to do it. Abigail is a truly pretty book. The illustrations are beyond beautiful and I could truly stare at them all day. The story follows a cute giraffe named Abigail who loves to count! Unfortunately for her though; her environment and friends are making it hard with all the changing, moving and being eaten and what not (leaves- no cuddly animals were eaten- phew!). I first read it with three beautiful girls that I babysit as their bedtime story. I explained that I would be reviewing it on my blog and the oldest, Georgia (who is the most switched on eight year old I know) took it upon herself to assist me in this job. Here were some of her thoughts...
"Well you know, it doesn't say who Abigail is. I mean people might get confused. Who is Abigail? The giraffe? Or maybe it is the ladybug or zebra, or even the leaf? Who knows. They should definitely make that clearer so people know". The other two just sighed in awe at the pretty pictures and lift out flap like me. I have recently been craving a fantasy world where the main character already knows the ins and outs of every day life. Mostly though they follow the protagonist who is only just finding out about that world and then you get to go on the journey together, but I was so excited to see that the Kanin series is told by Bryn who grew up in Doldastam, the capital city of the Kanin people. I was first introduced to this world when I read the Trylle series which is centred around Wendy, the heir to the Trylle throne. They are all pretty much a bunch of petite trolls who hail from Scandinavia.
Gah I'm doing a not very great explanation but give me a break because I had surgery only a few days ago... Okay, where was I? Right, well pretty much you get to see the opposite side of the world in Frostfire. Bryn is a tracker and her job is to find the changelings (troll children which they switched at birth with human children) and bring them back to the community. And so yeah, she does that, and she also has this guy who she used to love, but now hates that she is trying to capture and yeah... Wow, sorry. I really wished that we could have seen more of what it takes to be a tracker, and I would have loved if the whole book was just Bryn tracking Linus. I almost missed the powers that the Trylle had, and found that without them the story was lacking. But hey, a visit from Tove *waves* made things a bit better for a little while. I adore fictional settings in winter wonderlands, so the location of Doldastam was simply perfect! I felt that this book was very similar to Switched and the rest as not a lot was going on. I mean the pace is cracking and you don't get bored or anything, but it's super simple and there aren't a huge amount of plot developments. On one hand I like this because the romance is always developing slowly, but on the other hand you kind of finish and go, okay... But I've already started the sequel and am enjoying it! Rate: 6.5/10 Pages: 300 Format: Paperback Genre: YA Fantasy Acquired from: Kerrod for my birthday (Thanks Ked!) Thoughts and things I loved (as told from my little brown book) • IMAGINE DRAGONS!! • They like new things, but don't use them?? • Totes knew she was preggers!!
Meet Faye; a quirky law student who finds out her boyfriend of six years has been cheating on her. What will she do? Oh I know, sleeping with his bad-arse bikey brother seems like a great idea, until she ends up pregnant and dragged back to Wind Dragon's Motorcycle Club Headquarters. There she has to deal with being seen as property and having her every word and move scrutinised. But is it worth it for a chance with the man she's always dreamed of? I don't believe so, but she certainly does. Okay, so as you can tell, this book had a lot wrong with it, and lots of things really irritated me, such as the way the boys treated women, even the ones they claimed to respect. The writing was also very simple, and I often felt that the tense was out of place as it was written in present tense, but seemed to jump around a lot. From the sounds of the above, you're probably thinking I didn't like it, and I probably shouldn't have, especially after reading the Disaster series where the characters and story had real depth and multiple dimensions, which this series totally lacked... but I did. Probably because it was just an easy read, where I didn't have to invest much, and could read it in the car on our tripping around in under 24 hours. Also, I quite liked Faye, even though I wanted to punch her every time she said "If you ever do this again, I'll leave you". I really enjoyed the relationship between Faye and the biker boys, and how she put them in their place. In saying all this, rating it is actually a serious issue...
