The book follows seventeen year old Callie who has spent almost her entire life on the run with her mum, as she was kidnapped as a child. You see why I was intrigued now? I thought so. Anyway, after twelve years her Mum is caught and Callie ends up in a town she remembers nothing of, but which hasn't let her go in the slightest. All she has ever wanted was to put down roots, but now, when she finally has a chance to, all she can seem to do is keep digging them up.
Callie has a lot of issues, and I loved how realistic that is, with all of the shit she has been through. I loved hearing her thought process and the way she rationalised things. She had a pretty huge journey throughout the story, and her character, as well as other characters developed so well. There were a few things I had issues with though. The first thing was the romance. At first it seemed that there was going to be a love triangle, and I just really didn't like the drama that I presumed would come from this. I felt that the romance was really unnecessary and I actually almost DNFed it. However, because I loved everything else, I pushed through, and I'm so glad I did because it dialed down a lot and I ended up enjoying the romance a lot. The second thing was that her Mum got bail; like why would they post bail for a woman who has done nothing but run away for over a decade. Anyway, overall I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something with some serious themes, dealt with in a light and hope inspiring way.
