The book is told from three sisters, all raised in the infamous cult Children of God, now known as The Family International. They share how, for over twenty years they were abused emotionally, physically and sexually by men and women who were their "leaders" and "protectors". Each girl grew up living in many different towns, countries and continents; often without each other or their parents. Every chapter goes into extensive detail about the contradictory policies the cult had and how their founder David Berg controlled his "flock" and brainwashed their minds. The neglect and abuse that the girls faced constantly through their childhood scarred them deeply, and after suicide attempts, near starvation and nervous breakdowns, their journey to freedom. Knowing the damage humanity is capable of breaks my heart, but what mends it, is the kindness and love it is also capable of. The sisters are now using their story to raise awareness and funds for those children still suffering from abuse both in and out of cults. I truly hope that one day they and the many thousands of children enslaved by cults around the world get the retribution and justice they deserve.
