The Selection
The day I got back I was in at the library borrowing books. I have already read The Selection from this library, late last year. I died when the last page said "End of book 1". They have book 2 and 3 at the library now too, so I'm HAPPY!
The story has an 'end of society as we know it' similar to The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Giver, except instead of killing, factions and film noir; teenage girls from all different castes (there are 8 and they are like social rankings with Ones being the highest and Eights being the very, very lowest) they go into running to become Queen. America is a five. She has four siblings and is hopelessly in love with Aspen, a Six. Their love is forbidden and Aspen not wanting to hold her back forces her to enter the selection. She does. Nekk Minnet she is in a competition against 34 other girls all competing for their heart of Prince Maxon, something America does not want. Or does she?? *cue creepy music* This is a really good read; exciting and adrenalin pumping. America is a fierce character who I love, though she is annoyingly indecisive. Like worse than me! And that's bad, ask my friends! Rate: 8/10 |
The Elite
Book 2 of the selection series.
Six Girls Remain. As America starts to learn all the ins and outs of the palace and her friendship grows with darling Marlee, she is constantly torn between her first love Aspen (who has become a guard in the palace) and her feelings for the Prince. America wants to help the people of Illea (new name for the USA) but doesn't feel she has it in her to become Queen (either does anybody else). She does some brave, but stupid stuff as she begins to feel her position in Maxon's heart compromising. Add that to the tension of the attacks by Northern and Southern rebels, drama, drama, drama!! The One
I am so emotionally drained. This book will kill a little part of you. Honestly.I've been reading The One over the past week very slowly. Yesterday afternoon I went and sat outside in the sun to read with a friend. It was the beginning of the end. I was only five chapters from the end when it all started happening. It was adrenilating and exciting. When the sun went away, I went inside and my guy best friend came and hung out in my room. I know he thinks that this was a mistake. Because three chapters from the end EVERYTHING started happening. And not exciting everything, but shit going down, need to take five minutes to breathe... and unfortunately for him, rant. It was tough. Still hard to talk about. Another friend walked past my window. Rant again. They both left me. In my most vulnerable time!! Two chapters from the end and I could not be alone. I had to go to a friends room. She reads. She understands. I finished. As she would say, On a scale of one to even... I can't.
I don't even know how to explain this story without spoiling it all. I will try. Cut all emotional chords and try. There are only four elite left now and one girl has nearly as much grip on Maxon as America does. They do heaps of royal stuff and learn that one half of the rebels aren't so bad and are everywhere, while the other half... well... *sighs*America won't bend over though and she is nearly sent from the castle three times for pulling 'stunts' that the royals do not find befitting of a future princess. But she loves her people and will fight for them. Recommended If: You have read the previous books and want to know how it ends (even though they're making two new books) Not Recommended If: You can't handle the feels. Favourite Line: He crawled over me and grabbed Kriss, who was covering her ears and crying in earnest. Aspen pulled her face up and slapped her. Rate: 9/10 |
