The Age of Miracles
Yay for epic books! And this book was definitely epic... and unique... and did I mention epic?!
It follows eleven year old Julia (but the story is told by twenty-three year old Julia so it isn't simple or too young) and the events that stopped the world... like literally. You see; the earth has started to slow it's rotation on it's axis and the effects and global and severe. The days and night expand until they are double, and then quadruple the normal twenty-four hours and much of the fauna and flora die off. But the drama that is the end of the world cannot be thought and worried about constantly, life goes on as best it can, and that is what Julia is learning. So dystopian is my favourite genre, but most are set in post-apocalyptic societies. But what I actually love most is apocalypse books and movies which show the actual end (yes, I know that is slightly odd). Therefore you can imagine my excitement in reading this book, and how delighted I was to see it executed correctly. Because while the focus was on the 'end of the world', the author used other themes and adversity to be overcome which took this from a fantastic tale, to an epic one.
