The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf
I won this book and it's sequel. Thank goodness for book worthy competitions, because let me tell you... I have won A LOT of books. :) #happyjem
The story is set over three hundred years after what they call 'The Reckoning', which was pretty much the end of the world because of humans. However, survivers survived and the Earth now consists of one land mass with seven cities. Humans embrace 'The Balance' and have several Accords that ensure that humanity does not hurt the Earth as it once did. Except, not only has the Earth changed, but so have the humans... Now there people with... abilities, called Illegals.
Ashala Wolf is an Ilegal. She lives in the forest. She is the leader of a tribe. A leader that has been betrayed and captured by someone in love, and forced to risk her tribe's safety. But there is something she cannot remember, something that changes everything.
The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf is a great novel, and quite an easy read. It is written by an Aboriginal woman who captures the essence of the connection between man and the land perfectly.

Recommended If: You're in the need for a superhero/superpumped up story.

The Disappearance of Ember Crow
It took me quite a while to get through this book (a week to be exact) not because it wasn't any good, but because I was distracting myself with other things, such as writing, watching and wintering.
The novel picks up where The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf left off. Ashala has run off with the wolves after hurting Connor in one of her 'sleepwalking' episodes and is determined never to let her abilities harm anyone ever again. However, she is dragged back to all she left behind when her best friend Ember, goes missing. Just when all hope seems lost, a boy named Jules shows up holding the missing key that pieces everything together about Ember and her past. Together; Ashala, Jules and Connor must put aside their differences in order to do what is not only best for Ember, but the world. But does Ember want to come home?? Or will what she is tear her and the tribe apart?
Quite a nice read; but I wasn't able to get engaged enough into it. I'm not sure whether it was the story itself or maybe I just wasn't in the mood. However, I would still suggest reading it, and I will probably be getting the next two books when they come out.

I loved this: "Count the angels one by one
We'll get to eight before we're done
One to lead
Two to fight
Three to make all great wrongs right
Four for music, dance and art
Five to nourish land and hear
Six to invent
Seven to remember
Eight to bring the rest together"
