Lord of the Flies
This is a really hard book to review as I am torn. On one hand I see how Golding has created this insightful piece of literature that hones into the darkness of human instinct, but on the other I just thought that it was a boring book.
It is about a group of boys who are stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash (which we are given absolutely no details about). At first they elect a chief and work to keep a fire going for a smoke signal. This, along with their facade of normalness fades and the survivors are torn between the life they are trying to hold onto and the bitterness that is primitive behaviour. Soon the island beast they feared, fears them. While I was really looking forward to reading this novel, I just felt that it fell short of my expectations. The characters were developing, as was the storyline, but ever so dully. I felt that it never gave enough detail about anything and the tone was bland and grey. I'm sorry to say, but it was just, boring. Rate: 6/10 Pages: 216 Format: Paperback Acquired from: The Mobile Library |
