The Jewel
I had a lot of mail yesterday. Three packages, four books. It was amazing. I have been wanting to read The Jewel for a while as I just thought that the plot was something different and so I picked it up yesterday afternoon and put it down (finished) last night...
And unique it definitely is! Violet lives in a world where the royals are unable to birth healthy heirs, and so surrogacy was invented. Each year, young girls are tested and taken from their homes to await the auction where they will be sold to the highest bidder and ultimately carry her child. Violet has been sold to the Duchess of the Lake, a violent and cunning woman who has waited nineteen years for another chance for a child. You see, the Duchess already has a son, a nineteen year old reckless and careless blonde beauty called Garnet. Hey, hey you're thinking; they're going to hook up right?! That is what I thought too!!! But no, she gets with Ash; someone in a very similar situation to herself. Don't get me wrong, I adored this novel, I mean, I literally could not put it down. But I felt that the romance was a little off. I just couldn't picture Violet and Ash and thought that their love was too insta. I also don't trust Ash. Sure, he hasn't done anything to deserve this, but I just don't like him. I'm not entirely sure if I feel this way because I wanted Violet and Garnet together from the beginning or if I am picking up that maybe Ash isn't right for her. Anyway, enough about that. This storyline is like nothing I have ever read before and the world building and plot twists were fantastic! I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of The White Rose when it comes out in October.
