The Dalai Lama's Cat and the Art of Purring
I loved the first book, and I loved the second. I have no doubts that I will love the third... when I can get my paws on it!
His Holiness' cat, her official title, better know as HHC is back with a special mission from her non-whisked friend; to find the art of purring (the meaning of happiness). Overcome at first with the loss of her precious kittens, HHC wallows in her grief, while observing those around her. The main humans precious kitty helps are those at the Himalayan Book Cafe. Gosh, I read this while I was tripping around Europe and it was so grounding for me to listen to and yet I'm finding this review a little difficult to write. Perhaps because of my time away. Plus I just don't know how to put into words how a very human cat learns, lives and loves, and teaches you to how to as well. I was quite emotional throughout the duration of HHC's narration, as I love cats, and my cat Brax in particular. But the day after I left Australia she died and I miss my kitty and all the joy she brought into my world. So I had many mixed emotions and was even more deeply touched by how this beautiful feline creature was able to grow and help me to as well. How very blessed I am to have learned to love so deeply from two very precious cats. Rate: 7.5/10 Pages: 264 Format: Audio Book Genre: Spiritual Fiction Acquired from: Borrow Box (library app) |
The Dalai Lama's Cat
Fact: I have never read a book from a cat's perspective before.
Fact: I have never read a book from an animals perspective before. Although I did read one from an imaginary friends'...
Fact: I loved reading a book from a cat's perspective, and now want to fill my bookshelves with cat biographies!
Yes my friends, this is that type of book! Set in Tibet, HHC (His Holiness' Cat) is the feline friend to the infamous Dalai Lama. Snatched from her litter at birth and sold to the highest bidder, HHC was the fortunate runt to be bought by one of the Dalai Lama's staff and brought to his house to live. Here HHC gains status between the staff, media and even cat-hating Franc. She gains many names and experiences all of the tribulations and lessons that life has to offer. Now I know what you're thinking, its a cat, how can we learn from a cat?! But boy does Michie do an outstanding job of describing life from a sophisticated kitty's point of view. From gluttony issues, to self-esteem woes, from friendships to first loves, you get to share it all with HHC. She witnesses so many philosophical and spiritual transformations in both man and animal and there are a tonne of goodies throughout which help to answer some of life's most fickle questions, and ultimately help us understand what life can be about. My favourite thing from this book, which is still following me around in everything I do, is this gem of a quote... "Your life is the most important thing in the world to you. Same for the kitten". So simple, and yet so compellingly profound.
