Fact: I have never read a book from an animals perspective before. Although I did read one from an imaginary friends'...
Fact: I loved reading a book from a cat's perspective, and now want to fill my bookshelves with cat biographies!
Yes my friends, this is that type of book! Set in Tibet, HHC (His Holiness' Cat) is the feline friend to the infamous Dalai Lama. Snatched from her litter at birth and sold to the highest bidder, HHC was the fortunate runt to be bought by one of the Dalai Lama's staff and brought to his house to live. Here HHC gains status between the staff, media and even cat-hating Franc. She gains many names and experiences all of the tribulations and lessons that life has to offer. Now I know what you're thinking, its a cat, how can we learn from a cat?! But boy does Michie do an outstanding job of describing life from a sophisticated kitty's point of view. From gluttony issues, to self-esteem woes, from friendships to first loves, you get to share it all with HHC. She witnesses so many philosophical and spiritual transformations in both man and animal and there are a tonne of goodies throughout which help to answer some of life's most fickle questions, and ultimately help us understand what life can be about. My favourite thing from this book, which is still following me around in everything I do, is this gem of a quote... "Your life is the most important thing in the world to you. Same for the kitten". So simple, and yet so compellingly profound.
